Meeting Digest 5-1-19
The meeting was called to order by Lion President George Salet. The pledge and invocation were skipped, as were the introductions. 5 Lions were present.
Guest Speaker
The Director of the Excelsior Boys and Girls Club, Jennifer, will be our guest speaker at the May 15th meeting and tell us about their Summer Camp and other programs we might be interested in supporting. They do scholarships for kids who can't afford the fees to go. The invitation was offered by Lion Sharon Eberhardt.
Student Speaker Contest
Our contestant in the Student Speaker Contest, Michael Gray from Archbishop Riordan High School, has won the District contest and will be advancing to the Area 2 contest. The contest will take place on Saturday, May 11th at 2 p.m. at Tierra Linda Middle School in San Carlos. It would be great if some members can show up and show our support.
It has been suggested by several members that the students receive very few dollars for their participation in the contest. These are some of the awards, subject to correction, given out during the contest and they accumulate for the winning student: Club $100, Zone $150, Region $250, District $4,500, Area $6,000, and State $10,000. Definiitely not chicken feed for the winner!
A Thank You letter and receipt was received from the Lions Eye Foundation for our continued monthly support towards patient care.

Youth & Community Raffle
Youth & Community Raffle Logo
The numbers have been run through the grinder, twice, to come to our bottom line which is $6,877.27; not too bad. A complete report is available by email from the chairman.
Lion Lyle Workman, chairman, would like to thank the 18 members who participated, as well as all those contributors who continue to support our Club. The selling groups, although fewer, have also done an outstanding job. Next year to look forward to.
The web works in mysterious ways: a purchaser of Youth & Community raffle tickets, through a selling group, sent in a request to check if she had won in the raffle through our website. She was answered and thanked, but had not won a prize.
Installation of Officers
Nothing to report yet, but the word is it will be kept simple.
Board Meeting
The Y & C Raffle report was presented and accepted; attendance for April was 44%.
Conversation and discussion at the May 1st meeting included government, the Excelsior district, and other interesting topics.
Lion Joe Farrah let it slip that he will be having a heart valve replaced soon. We hope all will remain well with Lion Joe.
Reported by Lion Joe Farrah: Former Lion Ernest “Chuck” Ayala, who came to our Club through the merger with the Mission Lions, passed away in late April.
