Meeting Digest 5-15-19
The meeting was called to order by Lion President George Salet. The pledge was led by Lion Sharon Eberhardt and invocation offered by Lion Ward Donnelly. Introductions were handled by Lion Tail Twister Bob Fenech. 6 Lions were present.
Guest Speaker
Unfortunately our guest speaker, the Director of the Excelsior Boys and Girls Club, Jennifer, did not show up. She may be scheduled at a later date.
Service Opportunities
Lions in District 4-C4 will be serving at St. Anthony’s this Saturday, May 25th from 9:15 AM to 1:45 PM. The address is 121 Golden Gate Avenue between Jones and Leavenworth. 2600 lunches will be served to the poor and homeless. Pre-register if possible. District 4-C4 flyer here.
Lions in District 4-C4 service project Rise Against Hunger will be held Sunday, June 30 from 9:00 AM to Noon. It will be held at Burlingame Lions Hall, 990 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame. 10,000 meals will be sent to impoverished areas of greatest need. Online registration form and instructional Youtube video available.
Student Speaker Contest
Our contestant in the Student Speaker Contest, Michael Gray from Archbishop Riordan High School, did not prevail in the Area 2 contest. Our congratulations go out to him and our wishes for a bright future. Thank you for representing our Club.
Youth & Community Raffle
At the May 15th meeting, there was a short discussion about the future and viability of the raffle. There were no conclusions.

The USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum will be held September 19-21 in Spokane, Washington. Early Bird registration will be ending May 30th. The Mission of the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum... Develop leaders, motivate and educate attendees, provide an open exchange of ideas, and support programs and goals of Lions Clubs International.
From Lion Emily Powell: She has several pairs of used eye glasses from Balboa students, teachers, and alums and will get them over to someone soon.
Show Me the Money
All members have been informed that, at the June 5th meeting, we’ll be discussing and deciding on the lions share (pun intended) of our donations for the year. Be there and help us decide. Documented suggestions welcome.
Installation of Officers
Nothing to report yet, but the word is it will be kept simple.
Conversation and discussion at the May 15th meeting included restaurants, the Genovese Club and Genovese in general, Lion Bill Graziano getting racked over the coals, and dynamic parking meter pricing in San Francisco, around the Giants ball park in particular.
Lion Joe Farrah underwent successful valve replacement surgery and has already returned home. This speaks well to Lion Joe’s future. Welcome home and get well!

1951: A young Corporal Joseph Farrah, wearing a parachute, being transported in a C-47 from Seoul to Susan, South Korea. Joe was assigned to the war crimes section where they investigated and documented atrocities being perpetrated by the enemy.
Attendance Raffle & Mystery Lion
Attendance Raffle non-winner winner was Lion Ed Damonte who missed out on $800. The Mystery Lion was a no show, again. Lion Sharon Eberhardt will be appointing a new Mystery Lion.
